GRANTEE STORY

Chinle Planting Hope

A grassroots effort on the Navajo Nation

Founded in 2016, Chinle Planting Hope (CPH) is an Indigenous-led, grassroots non-profit on the Navajo Nation in the rural community of Chinle, Arizona. To address long-standing inequities in Chinle, CPH is developing and improving its local Community Center, promoting community connection, creating new jobs, and providing the resources and support needed to help their most vulnerable neighbors thrive.

The group’s programs and services include a food bank, community garden, bike shop, thrift store, a bookmobile and literacy program which promotes Indigenous authors and illustrators. CPH is also creating an innovative play space that will give children and families access to quality educational opportunities and hands-on activities. By providing these new programs, CPH is actively creating the conditions for lasting change in their rural Diné region, working towards a more prosperous, vibrant, and connected Chinle for generations to come.
